RESTORTATIVE MEDIA PRAXIS (RMP)
RESTORATIVE MEDIA PRAXIS (RMP)© sees moving-image arts and visual storytelling as a vital component to self-esteem building, place-making, and community engagement for communities impacted by the criminal-justice system and mass incarceration.
RMP YOUTH & YOUNG ADULT PROGRAMS
RMP Youth and Young Adult Programs offers media literacy and digital-filmmaking programs that combine restorative and trauma-informed practices with project-based learning. The programs specifically support young people in three core areas—positive identity, contribution, and self-management—as defined in the Youth Development Impact Learning System (YDiLS) for Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) evaluation tool. RMP also incorporates objectives outlined in the Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Moving Image and Common Core Standards in all curriculum planning.
Filmmaking and media-literacy programs provide young people with an important opportunity for developing technical skills as well as sharing one’s own unique voice. Producing visual poems, documentaries, PSAs, and narrative films, and looking at the deeper meaning contained within moving-image arts, can enhance self-development and build connections between self and others. Project-based learning encourages young people to work through the challenges of making a moving-image artistic work, while also finding outlets to express aspirations, societal concerns, and difficult emotions.
RMP ADULT PROGRAMS
RMP Adult Programs focus on media literacy in the form of screening programs for currently incarcerated individuals inside correctional institutions, providing an important bridge for community connections beyond walls. These facilitated screenings allow for a space to unpack complex societal issues through engagement with narrative films and documentaries.
RMP PARTICIPATORY DOCUMENTARY VIDEO PROJECTS
RMP participatory documentary-video projects utilize writing prompts and video and audio recording, to provide participants with a brave space to unpack personal narratives in a supportive and inclusive environment.
